Retiring Councillors are: Ros Blakeney, Chris Headland and Peter Ganglen.

Current and ongoing Church Councillors are: Tom Adams, Joanne Amber, Betty Burbidge, Luke Moffat, Peter Pledge, Phil Thompson and Geoff Watson (Chair).

Retiring Councillors are also eligible to be nominated.

Prayerfully consider if God is calling you to serve on the council.  Nominees are to indicate the term they are willing to serve, from one to five years.

Nomination forms are now available in both foyers.  The reverse of the nomination form lists the duties and responsibilities of Church Council, plus the qualities we look for in a Councillor.

Nominations close: Sunday 8 June 2008.  Elections will be held after each service on June 29, the day of the next Meeting of the Congregation.

Fear and apprehension for relatives as

civil war flares

The small Adelaide community of Sudanese families from Abyei, in the ‘buffer’ region of Southern Sudan, are appealing for the prayers of the Australian church for families and friends - fate unknown - following a flare-up of the civil war last week.  There are fears that the 2005 Peace Agreement between north and south has been broken and fighting will escalate.

Offering Celebration Evening

Friday 6 June

7:15pm for 7:30pm start

We come together on this evening to give thanks and celebrate God’s faithfulness and to announce the offering made by our congregation to develop our building here.

We are planning an exciting and fun filled night

of celebration, followed by supper** at 8:30pm.

**We are also looking for people to make ‘slices’ for the supper.  If you can make your favourite slice recipe, that would be wonderful.  Just bring it on the night.

Leave your name at the Welcome Centre by 3 June, attention Maree, if you can help out in this way.

TAX DEDUCTIBILITY OF GIFTS TO

THE BUILDING FUND

Hope Valley Uniting Church has applied to the Australian Taxation Office for its building fund to be endorsed as a deductible gift recipient (DGR).

If successful, gifts made to our fund will be tax deductible.

To achieve DGR status the church will restructure some of its existing educational activities (playgroup, Alpha, internship program, etc) and on completion of the building program new educational activities will be offered. These will be consistent with our church values.

If successful, gifts given to the fund will be tax deductible even though the gift is given before the date of any formal approval.

You will be kept informed as to the outcome of our application to the Australia Taxation Office.

If tax deductibility of your gift is of interest to you, you will need to provide your name when making your gift so that a valid tax receipt can issued to you.

If our application is successful you may wish to make a further gift to the building fund of your ‘tax saving’.

A special bank account has been opened into which all gifts will be banked.  The name of the fund is ‘Hope Valley Uniting Church School Building Fund’.

Cheques should be made payable to:

‘Hope Valley Uniting Church School

Building Fund’

Electronic Funds transfers to:

BSB 805 007 Account 007 4452

at the Satisfac Credit Union.

...for greater things have yet to come and greater things are still to be done in this valley.

We give thanks for the life of Rita Stow who passed away last Monday evening, 19 May.  Rita’s funeral is tomorrow afternoon, Monday 26 May, 2.00pm at the church.  Those of us who knew Rita were richly blessed by her loving and giving nature.

To Joy, Bob and family, we send our love, prayers

and deepest sympathy.
