7:14 Prayer Meetings

Week 5

18 - 24 May

Prayers of Sacrifice

Titus :             Read Titus 2:3-11

1.    Pray that we, as a church, will see that giving our time, our talents and our treasure (money) to God, is not only a sacrifice but also a privilege.

2.    Pray for the leadership of HVUC and the sacrifices they make.  (Church Councillors, Small Group Leaders, Worship Leaders and their teams, Pastoral Team).

3.    Pray that we would be doers of the faith and not just hearers.

4.    Pray that, as a church, we would share with the world, the love of Christ.

5.    Pray for an openness to the plans of God.

2 Chronicles 7:14

If my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

GOD’S WAY TO BUILD A HOUSE OF WORSHIP

1 CHRONICLES 29:1-22

The greatest amount ever raised in a single offering in history was the offering given to build the Temple in Jerusalem.  God’s people gave over $400,000,000 in a single day to build a house of worship! At Hope Valley, we are following the same pattern described in 1 Chronicles 29 for our own offering.

 1. THE LEADER SET THE EXAMPLE IN GIVING.

First, God told King David to publicly announce the specific amount he’d sacrifice for the building fund.

“David said to the whole assembly … the task is great, because this palatial structure is not for man, but for the Lord God.  I now give my personal treasures of gold and silver for the temple of my God, OVER AND ABOVE everything I have provided: 110 tons of gold and 260 tons of silver...Now, who else is willing to give to the Lord?”

         (verses 1-5)

 2. NEXT, THE LEADER OF EACH FAMILY GAVE SACRIFICIALLY.

Then the leaders of the families … gave willingly.  They gave toward the work on the temple: gold … silver … bronze … iron … and any who had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the temple.  The people rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the Lord.”        (verses 6-9)

We have prepared instructions for every household to hold a family meeting to decide what God wants them to give in cash and commitment.

...for greater things have yet to come and greater things are still to be done in this valley.

 3. THEY HELD A SERVICE OF PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING.

“David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly, saying...‘Now, our God, we give you thanks and praise your glorious name.  But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this?  Everything comes from you, and we have only given you what comes from your hand...So they all praised the Lord...” (verses 10-20)

We will hold our pledge day service on June 1st with a great amount of praise and thanksgiving.

4.          THEY CELEBRATED THE OFFERING WITH A GREAT PARTY.

They ate and drank with great joy in the Lord’s presence that day.” (vs.22)

FROM THE WORLD MISSION TEAM

Remember to regularly look at the mission notice board in the front foyer and keep up to date with people we know and have supported in the past who are serving in other countries.

Testimony

God has been doing some amazing things in our church during the Building for Life program.  In particular, one of the young adults from our community has felt God speak to him about his commitment to HVUC and his desire to grow a faith that can move mountains.  Recently, this young man approached his boss at work and requested an exemption from all shifts that would mean missing out on Small Group and Sunday worship.  This was a huge step of faith for a university student who was already pushing through financial difficulties.  God is awesome!  What a fantastic testimony of commitment and sacrifice and another example of how the Building for Life program is all about money and it isn’t all about money!

How great it is to be part of a community that desires a radical relationship with God and lives by faith!   God Bless.

Carl
